Okay, so I stole this idea, but I saw a post on Facebook from a May '10 Clemson Grad who had to list "100 Reasons to go to Clemson", Thanks Cara!!! It made me think you know many of you KNOW I love Clemson, few of you know why so here is my condensed version of why I love Clemson!! And maybe after you read these, it will bring up fond memories or bring you over to the ORANGE side!!
ENJOY
- Clemson was never an option for me, it was just assumed as it was in many of my cousins homes 2 things, a. you WOULD go to college and b. that college would be CLEMSON, so of COURSE, I had to love them for my blood truly runneth orange, cause my parent's did. It was in the genes.
- If you know much about me then you know I come a large family, although my dad was an only child, my mom has 1 brother and 4 sisters. I have 14 first cousins, I think. And we were little my Papa and Grandma would take us ALL on trips. Usually 2 times per year, one trip would be to Carowinds and one would be to the Bowl Game that Clemson in which Clemson was playing. I remember the caravan of vehicles leaving their circular driving at the wee hours of the morn. I remember our flags flying, our orange wardrobe, and our stamped $2 bills. Brings tears to my eyes now! Gosh, how did they do it. The two kids I have can send me over the moon, but my Grandparents loaded us ALL up and they LOVED every minute of it!! See some of my best memories are covered in ORANGE!!
- One of those bowl games was the Championship Game. Yes OUR championship and I was there and I remember it. I remember the excitement in the stadium, I remember the electricity. IT truly is one of my fondest memories. Again my whole family there and in ORANGE. These are the kind of memories I have of Clemson, FAMILY memories. Clemson is and has always been a member of our family. Even though I think it has been disowned by a few of the family. The majority of us feel this way.
- The Campus.. Have you ever been to Clemson, you can say what you want about the athletic teams and so on. But Clemson University has a beautiful campus, the Lake, Tillman Hall, Botanical Gardens, it truly is breathtaking. To pull up on those early September Saturday mornings, the night air still lifting and to overlook Death Valley and see the clouds rise over Tillman Hall is AMAZING!!!
- Clemson brought me closer to some of my best friends EVER!! I got to know my cousins better, we bounded over cold beer and football, occasionally sneaking past them in the morning. But it was at Clemson that I met some of the most AMAZING people in my life. Some of these people I had known my whole life, but it was at Clemson that I REALLY grew to know them!!!
- Speaking about Bonding... go to Clemson any day of the week, go ANYWHERE with a Clemson t-shirt on you will meet people and it will be like you have known them all your life. I have lived in a few states and traveled a few places since my graduation. There has NEVER been a time when I was wearing something Clemson that another Clemson fan say hello or the universal "Go Tigers". I was even in Jamaica pregnant with Willie, trip from Hell but that is a blog for a different day, some dude sees my Tiger Paw on my hat and get the universal "Go Tigers". How truly Sweet It is.
- After my freshman year in college, things were difficult for me. Some reasons were of my own doing and others were beyond my control. Nonetheless, at the point where I decided that I had truly made a mistake by accepting my scholarship to Erskine and I was going to somehow get a degree from Clemson. It was a struggle for me and although I had a good time, a REALLY good time, my degree has the Clemson University Seal. I have interviewed for positions up and down the East Coast, the first thing that was said to me in an interview was "WOW, you went to Clemson". It's a good thing my degree does not state that my minor was Bourbon and Beer, but hey I graduated!!
- I met my husband at Clemson, and no matter how annoying he can be he did give me my sweet babies. And if had not be for CU we would not have had a Willie or a Maddie. During my time at Clemson, I had some great romances, which will NOT be discussed here! ;p
- The athletics, heck we may not always be the best, but we bring some excitement to field, court, or track!! The 25 most exciting minutes in football, if you don't like the running down the hill it is only cause you are jealous your team ain't got a hill to run down! SORRY hedges won't do!!!
- All these reasons and so many more, days like today on Bowman Field, wee morning hours at TD's and Tigertown. Peppino's Pizza, Nutty Professor, the Genoa Club(Telling my age on that one). Everything Clemson is a part of who I am, it an invisible family sitting on our t-shirts and ballcap. We are ORANGE!!
